I have little knowledge of Photoshop, but basically what I am wanting to do, is put my friends face over another persons face..as a joke, in an Egyptian pic...just goofing...how would I go about doing that? Thanks your responses.

Open up your friends picture, on the left hand side where the tools are, you'll notice a little lasso, or magic wand, click that tool, now your utilizing the magic wand; click and move around your firend's body and get the parts of her you want pasted on the egyption pic; once you have one end meeting another, selecting the part of her, or her out of the image; the dotted line will appear around her; click ctrl + c, which will copy the selection you made with the magic wand; now open the egyption pic and hit ctrl + v to paste her cropped body in the image. Drag and place her where you want her; and save the image.

Hope you're looking for the Full screen keys in Photoshop. 'F' is the key for that. Toggling between F keys puts your photoshop screen into Clean full screen, Full screen with menu and Standard screen bar alternatively.

You can use also 'Tab' key to show / Hide the tool bars and palettes.

You either have to save it as JPEG file or Bitmap. Try to open it again with Photoshop and resave it again but this time were you have "Save as type" take .JPG...
Try resaving the pic in .jpg format.and save that to another folder.
The easiest way is to reopen photoshop and either:

Save - but in the Save As.. box that opens up, choose the file type as .bmp or .jpeg

OR:

Save for Web - that will not only automatically save as a jpeg file but also allows you to vary quality and the size of the file.

Jpeg is the most widely used and readable format for an image, so I would recommend using that. Hope that helps.

The fan turns on because the hard disk and processor is operating more to accommodate the workload of photo shop.

Photo shop must maintain at least two copies of every image and any number of copies of edits. So it is very memory intensive and uses a lot of free disk space. The disk is writing and reading furiously and the fan kicks on.

Now... if you are sure the noise is ONLY your fan, then you can solve that problem by getting a new fan. They are cheap and easy to install. You do not need any specialized computer knowledge to do this. You will have to open the case and unplug the old noisy fan to replace it. Make sure the new fan you get has the proper current draw. That figure is listed on the fan itself. If you are not sure about that, have someone at the local computer-parts store read the fan's specs for you.

If the noise is NOT just the fan, it will probably be the hard drive itself. IDE drives will fail over time, but before they do, they usually give us warning signs, and NOISE is the chief sign.

Still, there is no reason to panic. Back up all your data. Get a new drive and install it or have it installed for you.

You would have to make a new layout covering the old nose. Than get the old nose and put it in another new layer and scale it down.

You'll find it difficult to achieve without it looking like it was altered. A better solution is to retake the picture from a more flattering angle. Stay away from wide angle, it will exaggerate your facial features.

I am having this problem for quite long..everytime i open a photo/image in photoshop CS, the image displayed is very small even at 100% and when i try to zoom in the image does get bigger but distorts..but when i work on PC i don't face such complications...

I suggest you to check with the pixels of the image you would like to view. If the pixels of the image is too low then after enlarging it will give only the distortion.

Since pixels i the collection of picture elements. So the lowest pixels is 640x480 which is 0.3 Megapixels.

Hence if you use higher megapixel images that you could view a larger image

There seems nothing wrong with either photoshop or ur display settings. The only problem can be with the image u r trying to open. It may be too small to enlarge.

If u want to enlarge a map or something, convert it to vector form. It won't be distorted while magnifying then. But for raster images, there is very little scope.

U can try to adjust the sharpness and clarity, but it will help only slightly. The best way is to get a bigger image.

How do i create a collage in photoshop with a simple and fast method?

I want to create a poster advertising the yearbook for my school but i want to create a collage as the background. Im going to create it using photoshop and then print it as a 20x30 at Sam's Club for only $10... i want to create a collage filled with tons pictures that i've taken.. the pictures should be all the same size and should be in the shape of rectangles.. so basically i just want it a it to be a collage of pictures looking like tiles all over the poster using photoshop.. i was wondering is there a software that helps me do this by simply just selecting the pics i want, the size of each pic and then it arranges it for me... the software does have to be a plug-in for photoshop but it would be great if it is... this way it could catch peoples attention on the poster... I've tried doing it the manual way and the photomerge method on photoshop but its taking a long time and is frustrating.... is there a faster method using a software or something... help me please....

Under the "source" pulldown menu you can pick the folder that contains your images.

The other options let you chose how many images per page, page size, image size and spacing size ..etc... play around, there is a preview.

Do you have "Adobe ImageReady"? normaly it comes with Photoshop. in the version of photoshop that i have theres even a button on the bottom of the main toolbar that says "jump to ImageReady" when you hover over it.

if that works there should an animation toolbar thing in imageready - theres a arrow button thing at the top right corner press it and then you'll see a menu - click new frame

if you do that the rest should come naturaly

Photoshop CS 2 does have the ability to animate natively, however it is not considered to be a tool. Click on Window%26gt;Animation and this will open the animation window.

This window should look familiar, it is the same one that appears in Imageready. It was added to Photoshop simply as a time saver - thereby skipping the cross-program step.

What exactly are you trying to do? Or what do you mean by "Animation"? When I do "animation" ads or movie GIFS I use Image Ready. Image Ready is included with Photoshop CS2.

Yes, you can use Photoshop to replace a green background with another background. However, if you want it to look natural, it takes a lot of work and experience. You need to use masking to do a good job, and there is a lot to learn about masking. I suggest the book "Photoshop Masking %26 Compositing" by Katrin Eismann, although it is a bit pricey. For starters, aside from the book, check out Photoshop's Extract function (see the Help), which may do it for you. The Magic Wand is quick but doesn't do a very good job.

When photographing with a green background, be sure not to have anyone too close to the background, or a green cast will be reflected on them, which will be difficult to deal with.

Open both files, side by side.

On one of them, Edit - Select All (Ctrl A or Comm A on a Mac)

Then Edit - Copy (Ctrl C or Comm C)

Click on the other file, then Edit - Paste (Ctrl V or Comm V)

The image you selected from the first file will now be the new layer, over the top of the other image.

You can also click on the Layer of the first image, and drag it into the second file. Again, the first image will show up as a layer on top of the first image. (I LOVE shortcuts!)

If you are trying to combine two images into canvas, then you can open the first image and then open the second image. When you are at the second image, use ctrl-a to select everything and then use ctrl-c to copy the entire image. Then, switch over to the first image and use ctrl-v to paste the second image on top of the first. It will automatically make the second one a new layer on the first image's canvas.
after u have the 1st pic up go file open, find the 2nd pic and open it. they should both be up on screen then.

Open the 2 images you like to use select one copy it and go to the other image and past the image in, you will get that second layer showing you the new image.

CS3 has some great little how to tutorial I recommend you watching them. CS3 has some real need stuff to offer. I just upgraded from CS2 and am getting familiar with all the new features they added. Great stuff. But you have to watch the tutorials to really understand them.

Photoshop error message: Can't open psd because there is not enough RAM.?

I'm trying to open a .psd file in Photoshop, and it complains that there isn't enough RAM. My system has plenty of RAM, and I've even tried doing this in Safe Mode to free up as much memory as possible. The .psd file is about 3 megs, so I don't know why it's having trouble. Does anyone know what I can do about this?

Check the memory settings in PhotoShop. In the preferences, (Edit menu \ Preferences) there is a Memory management page, and on that page there is a setting for the maximum amount of RAM Photoshop can use. Make sure it's not too low. I keep mine a 60% or higher.

There's probably other things that could go wrong too. I've had a corrupt file give me that error before. I had another copy so I never tried to fix the problem...

Have you checked how much RAM Photoshop is set to use? There is a percentage setting!
it is memory issue so download memtest86 and boot up and let test check ya memory and if it is defective then get rma for it.. it happen me 2 time ago...

create new layer. create your text on it and position it where you want. you can then either lower the opacity of the layer or if you look at the top of the layers box you will see a box called 'blend' try the different options in the drop down box there til you find one you are happy with.
Try using a watermark.
just type the text where you want it and then lower the opacity on the text layer to a level where it doesn't really interfere with the picture.

You can take pics of yourself of someone you know and put them with a different background. Like make it look like you went to Europe or something. Photoshop yourself into that setting.

You can also put your head on a different body or something. It's not too difficult to do, but in order to get it to look real, you have to work hard at the colors, textures, etc.

Worth1000.com has some pretty cool photoshop contests. You may be able to get ideas from there.

Since they are many different approaches to creating digital paintings, I would say photoshop accounts for most if not all, whereas paintshop although similar doesnt quite do it. Besides Photoshop is the industry standard, so if you are looking into collaborative work then photoshop is the way to go. So no paintshop isn't better. But the best way to make sure is to look into tutorials and forums and see which product tends to account for the way you like to work.

Yeah, that's why it's got the nickname 'Photochop', and why Adobe has changed the name to CS. An expert with photoshop can change a photo, and make it look realistic. Takes a lot of practice, and time. You have to get the contast of the extracted image to match the background for one. The edges of the image must blend in, and the pose, posture must fit in the background, that's just the beginning! There are many ways to do this, easier, and better ways than what I'm about to put out, but this will get you started:

1.With the image in your workspace, choose the magnetic lasso tool, and as carefully as you can, click on the outline of the image, and drag around the image, until you've made a full 'path' around the image. When you're back to the first dot, in the 'marching ants,' look carefully, and you'll see a small circle near the magnetic lasso tool. If you don't see it, you are not at the very first dot. If all else fails, press Enter, and the 'marchin ants' will now be 'dancing' around your image. Should you make a mistake along the way, press delete to go back to the last 'dot'. You must make a full path around the image to the first 'dot', if you do not, or if you don't delete to get back to the first dot, you can't get out. You won't be able to click on Edit, or anything. Just a tip, so you don't freak out! (Worst case scenario you can press CTRL,ALT,and DEL at the same time to bring up Task Manager, and get out of course!) Once the image has been surrounded with the Magnetic Lasso Tool, go up to Edit, scroll down to Copy, and click. Bring the background image out in your desktop.Go up to Edit again, and scroll down to Paste,click. Use the Move Tool to move your image around in the background to where you want, and then go up to Layers, and scroll down to Flatten Image, and click. You Will have to play around with the size of either your image, or your background to get things to fit,(this is done before you copy your image of course, but you can only find out if it's correct by using the Magnetic Lasso Tool, copying it, pasting on the background. No?, Not right? Go up to Edit, scroll down to Step Backward, until the image is gone from the background. Go up to Image, scroll down to Image size, and in the window that pops out, make your image, or your background larger, or smaller to fit. You still haven't changed the contrast, or brightness, or color matched, or feathered your image, etc., etc. It ain't easy! Just practice, practice!!

This is done by setting each picture on a separate layer, overlapping each other. Then use the eraser tool at a reduced opacity, to start rubbing out the overlap. If you have photoshop then give it a go.

as you say the shape of the swirl, and not pattern within, you could mask that area or outline with pen tool and convert, then place as overlay to pattern the apply to photos, also could design in illustrator, then open in photoshop later,

there is a filter called posterize - that will give it a more psychadelic feel.

and if you use the swirling technique for the background that should give you the results you are looking for.

i'm wondering if anyone has the time to help me put together a picture maybe for a school project i have to do.

i'm aiming for a guy. a full lenghted body of a firefighter. the assignment is for everyday heroes and list five traits that describe them. so i was thinking a hat and those yellow coats to represent things. but the problem i have is that i can't a FULL LENGTHED firefighter. also, i know it's a lot to ask for but i'm looking for a FIREFIGHTER WEARING A WEDDING RING. If you want to begin with a background color other than white:

In the tools palette there are intersecting squares indicating the foreground color and background color. By default they are black and white. There is an arrow you can click to switch them if you want a black background. If you want a color, click on the background square, a color picker window will open in which you can pick any color.

After selecting the background color, click file%26gt; new. There will be a choice at the bottom of the window for background contents. It offers the choice of foreground color, background color or transparent. If you have preselected the background color as directed above in the tools palette, choose background color.

If you are working with an image and want the change the background around a figure, select the area you want to change using any of the selection tools, then fill the area with the color you want.

I am not sure what you mean by "make the background black and white". You can fill with a gradient from black to white:

Select the area, choose the gradient fill tool from the tool palette. Drag the tool across the area.

Try to reset the text tool. Click on the text, then click on the tool icon (T) on the Options bar and on the menu select "Reset Tool" or "Reset All Tools." If nothing happens, try resetting Character and/or Paragraph from the Option menu in their palettes.

If this doesn't help, launch Photoshop holding down Alt+Ctrl+Shift and click Yes on the prompt. This restores all settings to Default.

I also want to fix his crooked nose and give him some better hair. He always looks that way when he tries to smile, he never exercised his face muscles. I told him that it doesn't make him cool to not smile.

try the healing brush, it selects the good area around the pimples and automagically fixes them. only cs 1 or 2 or later I think.

That happened to me for a while, then I discovered I was trying to copy from a layer that had nothing on it!

Try going to your Control panel and checking your user administration. Sometimes when you either purchase a new computer or "rent" one from one of those rent to own stores there is a "hidden" account that allows the user to restore the computer, (failsafe option) Then if there is only ONE user make sure your name by default is not on super user or even power user, it needs to read "Administrator" or in the "Administrator" Group. Some programs even under Super Users or Power Users still will not let the program install unless you have a login.bat file telling it to let you but if your not on a company network the odds of that happening are unlikely.

Just to correct the poster above me, you can download Firefox on Mac, it's completely compatible. I'm working on it right now. :) To open a new browser window, just hit "Ctrl+N" or "Ctrl+T" for a new tab (LOVE tabbed browsing, best invention ever!).

Mac and Windows programs are completely incompatible though, you will need to buy a new version of Photoshop Elements, make sure it's a Mac version also. Either check online or your nearest Apple Store.

Try creating a new vector image and using the airbrush (at about 5 px or so) and draw each strand. takes a while, but well worth it. randomness coupled with basic form following is the key here. dont be afraid to draw outside the lines. ALSO- change hues every 3 to 5 strands. (keeps it 3rd dimensional).

Do you have the Creative Suite or just CS3? Honestly, I would recommend getting Illustrator CS2 or CS3 because of the live trace feature which would basically automatically "vectorize" it for you. There are two ways to do this:

LASSO TOOL: Use the lasso tool to go around the edges of the girl to select JUST HER. Then go to select%26gt;inverse. This'll select everything BUT the girl. Then hit 'delete' on your keyboard. Now, with your picture, to go 'image%26gt;adjustments%26gt;brightness/contrast and slide both sliders all the way to the left.

Or you can go to filter%26gt;extract and using the smart-extract tool (check the box marked 'smart') you can go around the edges of the girl and then fill in and it'll extract everything else. Then follow the brightness/contrast directions above.

First and foremost, remember that I have version 5.0 of Photoshop.

I know that I'm supposed to make several layers of the photo I want desaturated, and I know how to highlight one specific color (Magnetic Lasso Tool around the object, and then desaturate background). What I don't know is how to highlight more than one object; It seems that I can only encompass no more than one object with the Magnetic Lasso Tool. Does anybody know how to "protect" more than one object from desaturating?

Another thing: Does anybody know how to change the Eraser so that it desaturates instead of erase (Although, I suppose you are erasing the color from the layer atop the original one)?

I saw my teacher do this, but I don't know if version 5.0 can.

The way I would approach a problem like this is as follows. (I'm using Photoshop CS2 but I think it will work with v5):

Create a saturation layer (setting saturation to 0%), then hide it using a layer mask. (The mask will appear black.) Then you can "paint" with a regular, white brush directly onto the mask. The desaturation effect will appear only where you paint.

To desaturate specific objects, lasso around one at a time, make the mask active by clicking on it, then fill the selected area with white so that again the desaturate effect shows through.

You always convert your colours to CMYK before printing because CMYK are the colors used by printers. RGB is, as stated above, the colours on your monitor. If you are going to print directly from photoshop, you can keep your source file in layers, but if you are taking it to a printer, it is recommended to use high-quality jpeg or pdf files (most printers will print from Adobe Acrobat and use pdfs). If you export your file as a pdf, also choose "high quality" or "press quality" when saving.

When you are working in Photoshop, to have all the options of filters, etc, availble to you, you must work in RGB mode. Once you have the design you want, convert to CMYK mode. There will always be a slight colour change, so if it changes the colours completely, try to flatten the RGB file first and then convert to CMYK, and adjust Hue/Saturation if needed.

Photo shop is not for making pictures by drawing. The paint program that comes with MS Windows can do that. The drawing tablet you get will have it's own program that will allow you to draw using the tablet.

If you still have original color picture available (hopefully you saved it before converting it to black and white), put it on a layer below the black and white picture layer. Then just add a layer mask to the black and white picture layer, Layer/Add Layer Mask, and with the Brush Tool brush over the eyes to see the color from the lower layer.

An easier way would be to just take the original color picture, add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, Layer/New Adjustment Layer/Hue-Saturation, decrease the saturation value to -100, then use the Brush Tool to again bring back the eye color.

I dont have my photo shop going atm ..its being glitchy ..but i do know that in paint shop ..all you have to do is select the layer ..then click on the layers tab at the top and choose arrange layers ..and move it to the top ..im pretty sure photo shop is very similair ..hope that helps

It should be as simple as clicking the layer on the layer window and dragging and moving it above the other layer
Click the layer you want to be on top, then click+hold the left mouse key over that layer.

While still holding, move your mouse up so that the layer you clicked will move to the top.

After moving, release the left mouse key.

And voila! That layer should be the front layer now.

Looks like you could reproduce that effect by (in photoshop) going to image on the top menu, adjustments, hue/saturation. Click the colorize check box. If you turn up the saturation slider up all the way, you can pick the pure base color you want using the hue slider (in this case, pure yellow) then back down the saturation until the image looks a little too yellowed. Click ok then go back to the image, adjustments menu, select brightness/contrast and turn down the contrast until it looks the way you want it to. You may also want to use a copy of the original layer and play with the blend modes to get that vibrant blue. Good luck.

You can make this type of effect in Photoshop with Caligraphic brushes. Play around with brush types, sizes, pressure, etc. Then try changing the color with saturation and hue or filters. There are many ways to produce this type of effect. Just get in there and explore!

Here's one way (there are others):

1. Select the teeth with the Lasso Tool or the Magic Wand Tool.

2. Open the Brightness-Contrast Adjustment Layer (Layer/New Adjustment Layer/Brightness-Contrast).

3. Increase the Brightness slider as necessary to get the whiteness desired.

4. You may need to use the Brush Tool on the Adjustment Layer Mask to make the brightness just for the teeth.

oh yeah all you have to do is use the eraser tool(dont worry, it wont absolutely erase it) and set the opaquness to about 50%. then, just run it over any spot (teeth, earrings, etc.) that you want to stand out. in fact, i hope i dont ruin your love for that picture, but the person that did it was not an extremely talented editor as they used hard edges and made it look to fake. test your skill and make it shine!!!

I downloaded Adobe Photoshop and installed it, how do I put it in a cd?

My computer is continually telling me of how little disk space there is and I've used the defragmenter, the clean up and stripped it of almost all of the programs except for a few. Still it keeps saying that there isn't enough space and now that I installed Photoshop there is a "critically low ammount of free memory". I would like to now if I can place Photoshop and Image Ready in a cd and just pop it in anytime I want to use it without having it all on my computer.

Not a good idea because you would have to uninstall each time then delete the rubbish left behind. Then you would need to install again to use because it can't be run from a CD.

To make your web site based on our web design template unique you can substitute included images with your own or add additional images there. To substitute existing image with a new one you should do the following. Copy your image file to the images folder of your web design template.

Image Ready doesn't have as many features as Photoshop. It is geared more toward web graphics. You can create animated GIFs with it and generate HTML code.

Photoshop is a much more intensive image editor. It can work in color modes such as RGB, lab, CMYK, grayscale, bitmap, and duotone. It can read and write vector and rastor images. It supports a wide variety of file formats.

So I would suspect other computer problems.

Run your anti-virus and anti-spyware scans. You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search %26 Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

Then get your Windows Updates.

Then try reinstalling Photo Shop again.

Filter/Liquify does exist in Photoshop CS. The Forward Warp, Bloat, and Pucker Tools in the Liquify filter actually do a pretty good job making people fatter or thinner. If you don't go overboard, it can be realistic looking.

Well you could try liquify(a filter) or just use the clone tool(click the tool, push alt and click on where you want to copy, then let go of alt, and pretty much draw)
A quick way to do it is

If it is against a non decript background you can follow the below steps, if not you will have to separate the subject from the background first.

1 Use the rectangle Marquee tool

2 Go to edit

3 Go to Free Tranform

4 Use Free Transform to make taller/shorter, Fatter/ thinner. by dragging the sides or corners.

5 Once sized to the way you want hit enter.

Note I find this to be also the quickest way to drop one person or object into another picture then size it so it matches

but i don't think it's available in CS. i use CS3 now.

i think you should start learning with CS2, which is simple yet advanced than CS. i liked CS2 but upgrade was cheap.

Optic Verve Labs has some nice free filters called Virtual Photographer. I like their "radiant" for some portraits and it has a nice B%26W section. All of them are better on a layer and modifyed. Recently I am enjoying working with textures and some portraits lend themselves to that effect quite nicely.

what you do is make a selection with the rectangular marquee, feather it slightly, then add a curves layer and lighten slightly. You can then control click on the mask to activate that selection again and then add a hue/saturation layer to change the color and saturation a bit. lastly try changing the opacity of the layers until it looks good to you. Have fun!!!

Normally Photoshop is not included with a new PC. You usually have to purchase and add it yourself.

You may want to look at Jasc Software's Paint Shop Pro also. It doesmost of what Photoshop does, including use all the fancy Photoshop add-ins, but is a fraction of the cost.

I find Paint Shop easier for a beginner then Photoshop. You give up some of the power of Photoshop for more "ease of use" from Paintshop.
