Photoshop: Converting 8bit pic to a 24bit pic??

As far as I know, all digital images are automatically in the 8bit mode. But I have to include a profile pic in an application and the requirements strictly dictate that it should be in the 24bit color mode and that 8bit color mode pics are not accepted. I've been breaking my head trying to find how to do it in Photoshop, but all I could find was 8bit/16bit/32bit under Image%26gt;Mode%26gt;

Could anyone please advise? Thanks in advance.

Save it as a BMP file. This format allows for 24 bit, and its an option when you "save as" to this file type. A 24 bit requirement isn't uncommon, its the standard image type in windows and some other softwares.

24 bit mode IS 8 bit. There are three channels - RED, GREEN and BLUE. They are all 8 bits each. Some people combine the three 8's to make 24bits. It's not technically correct but it is very common. So your 8bit image is exactly what they require.

Note: don't save as a BMP as this will take up a lot more diskspace and isn't a common filetype anymore. Save as JPG and move the quality slider to 6 or above. As you move the slider, the JPG save box will tell you what the image size will be.

For some strange reasons, whenever I open up a pic on my comp that has a white/black background, Photoshop automatically cuts out the image, leaving the "gray and white" grid in the background.

~ Photoshop Alpha Glass ~?

((This question has been posted in a major photoshop forum for 1 week, with no answers))

I've been trying to figure this out for some time.

The image I want to create has to have an alpha channel.

It has to be in 32 bit .tga format when saved.

What I need to do is create a window frame that is semi transparent were the glass is.

The finished product I've been trying to make will have a texture for the window glass, but you can see threw it.

Any ideas on how to do this?

You can mess with blurs, lighting and all of that to make it have a glassy like appearance. As far as being see through, make the frame a separate layer from the glass materials and make whatever you want to show up behind the glass as its own layer. Change the opacity of the of the glass material so that it is slightly transparent. Then structure the layers so that everything looks proper.

If you still have the Photoshop CD, you can search for that missing DLL on the CD... then copy the DLL and pasted it in here (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS)... if it's a normal install on Windows XP. Other than that, you can uninstall the program... then reinstall it. Hope this helps.

Re-install it.
I'd recommend google searching dll downloads and go to a site that you can download dll's from and then add it to the corresponding folder. Alternatively if that doesn't work you could re-download it if possible and it may work. If all above fail email the company and ask for further directions...

Actually, I have 4 very similar documents. They're JPEGs and I have Photoshop CS2. They are scanned flyers but I need to clean them up. You know how you scan a document that has something written on the back and it shows up in the scan faintly? How do you clean that up easily? I could clean it up manually but I didn't know if there is a certain filter that could clean it up in a snap or if there's a trick I don't know?

You can super up the contrast, if it's just balck and white, then whatever is left that you don't want you would have to go in and erase with the rubber stamper or eraser.
Levels and brightness and contrast.
use PAINT in photoshop...try cloning ....

Easy, since you use photoshop. Make sure the layer palette is open. All you have to do is to place the person (on the bottom layer) and the kiss make-up on the top layers.

Right above the 2 layers, there should be an option for a scroll down list with the name "normal" on it. Just scroll down the list and pick the one you like.

Okay so I'm trying to simply fill in my selection in Photoshop Elements using the paint bucket (or even the paintbrush) but it won't work!! Everytime I make a color selection, it doesn't show the color I chose, only this tan color. I know I'm in the right layer, and I just don't know why it won't work!! Does anyone know what's causing this problem, and how to fix it???

Choose "fill" from the menu bar (under edit?).
After clicking on the paint bucket icon and moving it over your picture, try clicking the right button on your mouse and selecting "normal" from the drop down menu.
Always try to work with a duplicate layer in case you mess things up. You should have your original layer (called the background) then you should have duplicated it and be working on layer 1. Make sure you have reset all the brushes etc. to their default settings. Goos luck.

Photoshop will not work! [Mac] [TWAIN menu issue]?

I bought a Powerbook G4 used, and the previous owner deleted Adobe CS (1) in an attempt to remove info about himself.

Well, my father does graphic editing, so I have been trying to reinstall Photoshop.

I have tried 7, CS 2 and CS 3.

They all crashed on Building TWAIN menus.

I also tried a CS3 clean script from adobe, which didn't help.

I'm assuming something is left for CS 1, since he was incorrectly removed, What could cause this issue and how can I get rid of it?

I'd use the CS1 program remover, but I don't have CS1 myself.

I suggest you do a complete system Install

You will need the Original Operating System Disc's and do a Erase Install.

This method will erase the entire operating system and start from scratch just like factory new. Otherwise you are going to continue to have problems. It appears they trashed some and left some and corrupted the system because they didn't know what they were doing.

Hi, okay so i downloaded this Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended program (it's like a free 30 day thing) and i really like it except i'm trying to save this picture and it says..it cannot save because there isn't enough memory (RAM). . This 3-D program probably takes up a LOT of space! I don't recommend it. Very few pics need that kind of attention.

Photoshop takes gabs of ram. Maybe your system won't handle it or the photo you're trying to save.

What you can try is Save As in the File menu and select Jpeg.

There's also Save for Web.

Photoshop formats can very heavy because of the multiple layers to the photo. Under Layers menu select Flatten Image.

Figure on adding 512MB of RAM when you're using Photoshop. They also have a program called Elements which may be more to your liking. Just a smaller version of PS.
Photoshop needs A lot of RAM... If your machine does not have enough ram for the command you try to apply or like save, then it will try to use HARDDISk space instead of RAM area and this makes running this command a little bit slower but succesfully.

At least on SYSTEM partition (the disk that you located WINDOWS in it.) should have at least 1,5-2 GB free space.. If you have more harddsik you are luckier...

Open PHOTOSHOP then Go to EDIT/Preferences/Plugins %26 Scratch Disks, Then select First/Second/Third/Fourth disk with a rank of first has the widest free area then the others smaller... Then RESTART photoshop...

Then Your Photoshop has A RAM and a lot of Scratch Disks helping it while it can not use RAM.

I quess if you do this your problem will finish..

Okay here's the deal. I have been searching for weeks now. I need to find a Trial or Demo version of Photoshop Elements 3.0.

I have the serial key, but I've lost my disks. So it pretty much has to be 3.0. I don't have the money to buy another paint program at this time.

It might be really hard to create a "splash" in Photoshop... I think you are looking for a "ripple" effect, which is fairly easy to do.

after selecting ur shirt u may right click and look for the command "feather" .. set the value to 2 or 3 and hit enter then continue with step 2 then 3.

get the lasso tool and you have to go around the shirt till you get back to where you started

then go to the layer palette at the bottom in that there is a circle with black and white halves in it, click on it and a menu will pop up

select hue and saturation click in the colerize box so the tick shows and then you can move the sliders to what colour you like,

move them until you are happy with what you like

I'm assuming you're starting with a color photo. Use the lasso, magnetic lasso, or magic wand to select only the shirt. Slightly feather the selection. Do Select/Inverse, then use the Saturation tool to reduce the color to 0.
Hold on i'll explain in a minute.

First, use magnetic lassoe to select pink shirt, or whatever you prefer to select your shirt.

Goto layer, new fill layer, solid color.

Change mode to Color hit ok

choose shade of pink.

hit ok.

Done.

Hi, I have CS3 for both Illustrator and Photoshop. When I copy something in Illustrator and then try to bring up Photoshop it will take an crazy amount of time for Photoshop to finally pop up. Is this normal? Is there a fix?

if anyone is rlly good in photoshop i hope you can help me with this. i made 2 pics and blended them. but i want to have them in black and white so i went to grayscale because when you lower hue/saturation, the quality isnt as good as when you do grayscale. and then i saved the pic. but now i want to put a texture on it and set it to lighten to get that cool effect. but when i put the texture on it it turns black and white too. how should i do it so that the texture stays in color when i drag it onto the bw pic??? and when i desaturate it its the same like lowering hue/saturation so.. lower quality:( please help!!

Unfortunately I don't believe this can be done as a PSD file. You would have to save it as a JPEG not a PSD, then pull it back into Photoshop on a RGB template - the image itself wont change colour but you can then add whatever texture you want in whatever colour you want. Hope this helps.

Change your image back to RGB mode. Your original image that you turned black and white in greyscale mode will stay black and white, but you can now put color gradients, filters, etc. over that black and white image. Additionally, anything that you drag into the file after it has been brought back to its RGB state will remain in color.

One neat tip, if you're going for cool effects, mess with the layer types. It's the pull down menu on the palette just under the layers tab. You can make it be "color" or "overlay" which from the sound of your project could give you some pretty cool effects.
Never, never apply any modification in original image.

Because you already done that, I think what you can do is change the color mode of your grayscale image through "Image%26gt;Mode%26gt;RGB Color" menu. Next is open your texture image and drag its layer to your grayscale image.

I think it's great. It is probably about 85-90% as powerful as real Photoshop. I also saw a $25 rebate in a sales circular recently, but I don't know how long this runs.

It's hard to say not knowing what OS you are using or the version of Photoshop you are using. Also I have no idea if your issue is at PS startup or during regular usage. If you don't have an enormous amount of fonts, it won't be a major issue. I will take a shot based on some assumptions that you are using WinXP and Photoshop CS3. Generally you can go under Edit-Preferences and go under the Performance section...make sure you are utilizing most of your RAM, turn down your History States to something like 10-20 for now....and make sure you have the scratch disk set to a proper disk with space for the scratch to work efficiently. You may have GPU settings in this section for your video card...play with those settings and see if you get better results.

Get rid of most of the fonts immediately. You can save them in another folder but the fonts folder if you don麓t want to loose them.

You should be able to pick up one specific font by opening the preview option for TTF-files. Then that font should be available in Photoshop as long as the file is open.

I don麓t know the details because I don麓t use Photoshop myself.

hey i dont know how to do that, but if you do decide to go brunette be careful because often when you try dye you hair blonde to brunette it tends to go slightly green, but if you put in a dye that has a slightly red pigment to it that should tone out the green look.

hey buddy!

Clone tool: it works just like rubber stamp. Clone tool is mainly used to adjust the facial features with less opacity. Clone tool works exactly the same as rubber stamp, Just hold "alt" key and click on a source point( the place which u want to copy) and then just use your mouse to clone by clicking and dragging it just like brush.

Masks: Mask is simply to hide the area u dont to be shown in the final output. Apart from this masks are used to create alpha channels, for 3d use. It is mostly used for keeping transparency in picture.

Vignettes %26 edges: Edges are basically (exactly) the same as it means, the edges of the document or the edges of the object on a particular layer.It is exactly the outline or the outer border of the picture or object or element on the layer. Vignettes are the same as edges it means A photograph whose edges shade off gradually. So it is important in dealing with edges in photoshop, as they affect largely how the image looks( basically sharp or blurry) . It is a decision to make by seeing th photograph, if the edges should be blurry or sharp depending on the aesthetic values of that particular picture.

use the majic wand tool to select the shirt, then apply the color gradient fill to that selected area. Cut and paste it to a new layer if you prefer .

There's a series of books by Scott Kelby that I really like...he can show you in simple steps how to create most anything. Down %26 Dirty Photoshop Tricks...check them out at the bookstore and see if you find what you need. He does a book each time a new Photoshop version comes out, so you can do all the older book things in the newer programs.

I would recommend simply using the numeric method. With your image selected, go to the image menu, then select "resize image" (or "image size"... can't remember the name in english, since I have the spanish version). There you can enter the dimensions you want your image to have, and you can also choose to make it keep its original proportions.

If you really want to use the mouse and it's somehow not working, I think for that to work you have to use the selection tool and hit "select all" on your image. Then right-click and select "free transform" or something similar (it's called "transformaci贸n libre" in the spanish version, so in english it must be very similar).

If THAT doesn't work, then you may have to uninstall and reinstall.

The best thing any one can tell you is to learn how to use the help feature, and spend time on it. Even if you don't find what you need you will learn from reading other things in your search. Look up what you need in different wordings, such as; edit picture or change object. Also, read the things that come up. It may be under something named differently than what you thought.

Also, If you are dealing with graphic arts you're going to have to use other programs such as Coreldraw and Adobe. Most of the editing you will want to do can only be done in those programs. In graphic arts you will often have to switch, copy and past, to other programs to do some things. Photo Shop is weak, limited, and you will never find all you need in one program.

you can check on yahoo!pictures for "bullet holes" and then, in photoshop open the picture and press strg+u (or was it i?) to make it black'n'white. then you can copy the black space into

another layer of the picture you wanna edit, and click strg+v to insert it. then you can doubleclick the layer and set it to "multiply". you can also fool a lil bit around with the "channels" (one tab right of layers tab)

I just recently installed Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium to my new Mac. All the programs run and work fine except Photoshop. I had the same problem with the free 30 day trial from the adobe website. And I ran and installed all updates! HELP!! :)

It sounds like one of the program files is corrupted. You'll probably have to uninstall photoshop and re-install the latest version.

There is no one answer to that, a combination of air-brushing and dodge and burn tools.

Did you mean the "fade wave"? Right after the "wave filter" applied, press Ctrl+Shift+F to open up "fade" dialog box. Fade is always related to the last filter applied and, in this case, is "fade wave."

I've solved this problem by going on google and downloading pictures of smoke, from chimneys and other things. Then, after downloading them, I manipulated them using "liquify".... and so on, then stored them in my own personal picture folder for future use. I have over one thousand images of things stored in my "things" folder. Photoshop is wonderful.

Your bottom layer (background or the layer just above it) should hold the image you want to be the watermark. Just adjust the transparancy in the layers pallete to what looks good to you... I usuallly go around 30%.

You can also adjust the opacity of the brush tools, should you wish to do it that way.

Adobe Photoshop? - probably not. Have a look at http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pi... This is Portable GIMP. The site has a lot of portable applications designed to fit on a USB memory key.

Get the GIMP instead. It's a free and sophisticated image editing program.
It will only work if you install the application on every machine and choose your stick as the default installation directory, ie f:\photoshop. Every machine will still need to have PS installed so the DLLs, etc are there, which are put in the system32 directory.

Once upon a time I successfully got IE5.5 and IE6 installed on the same machine in different directories. The apps were self contained in their respective directory. You would have a very hard time duplicating that with PS though. It could be done but it is not worth the trouble. I did it for money and would not do it again for fun, I would buy a second computer first if that gives you an indication of what a pain it was.
As usual when you install photoshop or any software onto the hardrive by clicking the c drive and then the folder instead select the drive which your mem stick is in and install it there for eg if the mem stick is in the F drive

Because every body never keeps the same aplication so the dll files shared will not be of same nature %26 identity. On Same system I am 100% sure it will run but slow. While installing you will have to define the path %26 location of instalation. It is very intresting, I don't know how much apriciation your question deserves.

Yes there is but without seeing the picture it is hard to be specific - try experimenting with the clone tool to copy background over the people you want to remove

1. Open your layers palette from Window %26gt; Layers and create a second layer. Use your Lasso tool and make an outline of where you want the blood to be as displayed on your subject. 2. Fill the area selected with the lasso in a dark red color and select the layer as Color Burn on your layers palette. Deselect the selected area if you haven't done so yet. 3. Now head over to your Tool bar and pick the smudge tool. Be sure the brush size for it is rather small. 4. With the smudge tool, smudge the blood down until it looks more realistic. 5. Select the Burn tool, located to the right of the smudge tool on your Tool bar. 6. With the burn tool, deepen the blood wound by making it darker on the center spots which should be the middle of the wound. 7. Now, go to Filter %26gt; Texture %26gt; Texturizer. Once the box opens up, select Burlap for your Texture. Scale it to 200%. Give it a Relief of 2 or 3. Now press OK and presto!
