ok so i just got photoshop 8...i think. its a newer version i believe.

On photoshop 7, there are different ways to distort and warp an image (layer), but there doesn't seem to be a way to bend the image in a CIRCULAR fashion - not spherical - without compromising the image. I wish to bend a layer the same I could bend text. Any ideas? Thanks!

i need to make tryptych photos for an upcoming exhibition.

i have taken some photos but i do not know how to make them triptych in photoshop.

1.firstly id like to know how to divide a full photo into three equal parts.

2.and also how to put three different photos together to make a normal size photo. i dont know if i am being clear or not but say i have a photo of a shoe and another photo of another shoe, and a photo of both shoes together. and i want to stick all three photos together to make a normal size photo.

but i dont know what the size of a normal photo is etc.

I must admit to being a bit confused!

I don't know any easy way to split a photo into three equal parts - you'll just have to get the rulers out and put in some guidelines I guess.

A 'normal' sized photo is 6" x 4" - so if you just create a blank canvas that size you can simply cut and paste your images onto it.

Does that help at all?

Cropping may be a decent way to cut a picture into three pieces (remember to save an original seperately).

Cutting and pasting may be a good option for bringing together three photos. (I dont remember if photoshop calls it that, but I would use a tool that functions like that.)

More normal picture sizes include 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, and 16x20. I suppose I would go by the size of frame (if there is one specified size) for the show. Otherwise, bigger is better, but watch your dpi or it wont look as nice. Try not to drop below 180, or your image will get grainy.

In both videos, the primary tool used is the Liquify filter, which allows you to make smooth distortions of images by twisting/shearing/scaling using various sized brushes.

The rest of the work done was mostly cleanup to improve the image and to hide signs that the image was liquified, plus to add some customization.

If you spend some time playing with the Liquify filter, and then rewatch the videos, you'll have a really good idea of what needs to be done.

Both videos are by authors who have some skill with Photoshop, although I think the second video showed someone with more confidence/attention to detail. So be prepared to spend a fair bit of time practicing.

Plus, the second video's operations were probably performed with a pressure-sensitive tablet, which made the addition of extra hair go really fast (it's much harder to trail off paint flow without a tablet).

Go through the attached tutorial videos. They are fantastic.

Also for the simple stuff, use the upright tools window and play with different tools using a picture with lots of different things.

Also, if you want to do something specific, use help and ask the question. One of the most important things is finding out WHAT Photoshop can do. Then you can try these things and learn from that.

I have been working (well, playing anyway) with PS for 13 years and I still learn new things every so often.

BTW, I have a fractal program that works great with PS, in allowing you to increase the size of pictures with virtually no loss in clarity and detail.

I took a 4 PM digital camera picture, enlarged it to 8' x 6' and printed that out with a color laser printer on 96 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper and glued them to a flat background. The picture looked life size and stunning.

Most people dont need the full version of photoshop. And you are right, its expensive. I paid 1000 bucks for CS3 extended. If you are a student, you probably can get a student version cheaper, but probably not 50 bucks.

Arcsoft photo editing tool isnt that bad for amatuers and only about 100 bucks. Of course it wont do everything a full version of photoshop will do. However most people dont know how to use all of photoshops features anyway.

Can anyone explain the differences in saving formats in Photoshop? What I mean is, I have been generally saving images/artwork in JPEG but recently discovered that this is not necessarily always the best way to save an image for different applications. (For example, I created a logo for a friend's business, saved it in JPEG, and then was told by my friend's printing company that BITMAP or TIFF is a better format to use for printing business cards as, these formats preserve the clarity of the image better. I had sent him the completed image as a large-sized file but, when he attempted to shrink it to a smaller size, the text I had included with the logo was not as crisp/sharp.)

I would really like to understand about different formats and which ones are better for different purposes. Please explain in simplest terms please as, I am still learning everything in general.

I don't know too much about the different formats. I save everything as BMP's, PNG's and PSD's. When you save it as a PSD, you can go back and edit it easily whenever you want.

No offense, however I am amazed...you have no knowledge of file formats and you are making logos???

and Business cards? Business cards need to be saved in tiff format at 300 dpi. They also need to be designed to allow for bleed.

To save an image on a transparent background you need to use gif or png formats.

most files for the web can be saved as jpeg.

72 dpi is the norm for web graphics.

Check the image size dpi (Image %26gt; Image Size)

Resolution = 72 or 96 pixel/inch, it means the image is made for viewing on web and not for printing, therefore it is pixelated.

If the resolution is small to start with, you can't really fix the problem. Next time try making your project at least 200 dpi.

LOL.. this is a section on fish.

But anyway, there are a few tools that can help you.

1. Magic Wand - I suppose you're using this currently,this gives quite alot of frizz. Try playing with the tolerance to get better results.

2. Lasso Tool - only if you have a tablet or excellent mouse control.

3. Polygonal Lasso - for more angular shapes. Requires plenty patience.. especially if you're tracing hair.

4. Magnetic Lasso - If there is high contrast between the object you want to trace and its background, click on the edge and hover your mouse along the edges. Needs a while to get a hang of.

5. Quick Mask Mode (located under the colour swap on your tools bar) - Best for slight retouching after using one of the above tools. Basically, colour or erase the areas that you've over or underselected. Return to Standard Mode when finished.

There's more ways, like using pen tool, but only if you really want it totally flawless and have at least half a day to spare.

This would take techniques such as blurring/smudging parts of the photo to "wipe away" the existing text - then simply adding a layer of text where you want it..

I'm sure there's other ways, but I think this is the easiest.

You could use the magnetic lasso to take out the words Merry Christmas.

Then clone the background that was around the Merry Christmas to fill in the white space left by the missing words.

Maybe use the smudge tool to make the clone look less obvious. Depending on the Background...

Then use the text tool to add whatever you want in whichever font and size your choose, to the location that previously said Merry Christmas.

PS if you use the eraser and make the background turn white...try using the cloning tool to pick up a patch of the background and place it over the shite patch.

Or clone backgroung straight over the words instead of erasing the words....Clone the background over it.

Those two techniques will work unless the background is very detailed and it will be obvious.
use clone tool to erase the "merry xmas" text and use text tool and type "thanksgiving" ..

I have no experience with them but it is hot software for sure. It is a relatively new site. It has no site adviser rating I wouldn't trust them. Download The Gimp. It is open source. The interface is a bit clunky but it does many of the things photoshop does.
The only way you will get Photoshop for 拢30 is if it's two or three versions out of date, and somebody is trying to empty their warehouse of it.
